Six Sigma: Introduction to DMAIC

In manufacturing and service industries across the globe, there is constant pressure to reduce cost, improve quality, and hasten lead-time to market. “Faster, better, cheaper” is the battle cry for those looking for a competitive advantage. To stay competitive, manufacturers and service-providers must have well-defined processes in place and well-trained employees executing each step of those processes. Additionally, companies must continually look for ways to solve problems, and improve processes, as the marketplace, and the technologies supporting it, evolve. To be successful, managers must have a firm understanding of problem solving through process mapping, and process re-engineering. One widely used tool for problem solving is the DMAIC methodology. DMAIC is an acronym for define, measure, analyze, improve, and control.
