What is Materials on Demand (MoD)?

It's a service provided by the Kettering University Library for obtaining materials that are not owned by Kettering. All polices governing procedures are based on the National Interlibrary Loan Code.

Who may use Materials on Demand (MoD)?

Available to currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff.

How do I request materials?

They're five convenient ways to submit a request for materials:

  1. Fill out an online request form
  2. Email mod@kettering.edu directly with requesting information
  3. In-person, please check library hours
  4. Call 810-762-7814
  5. Browse the library databases (Many of them such as, EBSCO and ProQuest have internal request forms).

When should I use this service?

When you're having trouble finding a material in the Kettering University Library collections. Please utilize the stops in the How to Find Materials page before submitting a request, but we would be happy to perform materials searches on your behalf.

What is the turnaround time?

The average turn-around time for physical materials is 7-10 days and copies are 2-4 days. Article requests are quicker with turnaround times from same day to up to 4 days as they're delivered electronically. Although, these requests are all pending the response time from the lending library.

How many items can I request?

There is currently no limit on the amount of requests, but we ask that you please be realistic with the amount of materials you request at one time.

How do I know when my material has arrived?

You will receive an email with directions how how to access (electronic requests) or retrieve (print requests).

How long may I keep borrowed material? May I renew?

Most lending periods are 4-6 weeks with 1-2 renewals available. Renewals are allowed at the discretion of the lending library. Please contact Materials on Demand (MoD) at mod@kettering.edu to inquire about material renewals.

Where do I pick-up or return the material when I am finished?

All print materials must be picked up from our Luxer Smart Locker system, which is located outside the library and available during AB building hours. Articles are delivered electronically and come through a secured email. You will receive an email on how to retrieve when either item is available.

You may return materials in the library return slot/drop-box, which is located in the hall, directly across from Room 2205, to the left of the library doors. This is also accessible during AB building hours.

Are there fines or fees for overdue, lost or damaged material?

After 30 days past the due date you may be subject to restricted library privileges. Failure to return material or returning the material damaged may result in replacement fees. The fee amount will be set by the lending library.

May I use Materials on Demand (MoD) if I am on my work term, a distance learner or a thesis student?

Yes. Articles will be sent to your email account, unless you make other arrangements. We are unable to ship materials to distance learners and students not on campus due to the short check-out period of borrowed books.
