Kettering Library has a reciprocal borrowing agreement with the University of Michigan–Flint called Academic Resource Sharing. Kettering faculty and students are allowed to check out books in person from the Frances Willson Thompson Library. Search their book catalog here.
In order to use Academic Resource Sharing, the Kettering librarians will provide you with a signed ARS Card. Please see a librarian during open hours and request one. Cards are good for the entire term.
In addition to ARS, the Thompson Library has two public computer stations with access to their extensive database collection.

Residents of Genesee County, who are 18 years of age or older, may apply for a Community Borrower Card with limited circulation privileges. A valid federal or state photo ID displaying the current address is required for registration. Weekend applications will be processed during normal business hours the following week. The library card is valid for one year.

Full-Service Card -Any resident of the City of Flint or the State of Michigan may apply for a Flint Public Library card. A current Driver’s License or State of Michigan Identification card must be shown. People under the age of 18, who do not have their own Michigan Driver’s License or Identification Card, must have a parent or legal guardian present to get a card at the time that they apply.
With a full-service card, you can check out physical materials (books, media) as provided in the Check Out Materials page.
Applications are accepted at the Checkout Desk until 30 minutes before closing time. Please visit the lobby to fill out an application or download and print it ahead of your visit.
E-Card - No current ID, or you’ve not yet updated your address? No problem! They can issue you a library card or renew your regular card as an E-Card temporarily until you bring in your ID. Your E-Card gives you access to library computers and all of the digital library resources available anywhere any time, including downloadable books and audiobooks. The only thing you cannot do with an E-Card is check out physical materials. When you have a valid ID, just return to the Checkout Desk and they can convert your E-Card to a full service library card. City of Flint residents and residents of any Mideastern Michigan Library Cooperative (MMLC) service area may also have a free GDL card to check out physical items and use computers. Additionally, they have the option of paying for digital services for $10/month or $100/year.
Anyone outside GDL’s service area may purchase a non-resident card. Non-resident cards permit the holder to use all GDL materials and services with the exception of MeLCat. A non-resident card may be purchased for $10/month or $100/year.
