PubMed Central is a completely free database containing journal articles in their entirety relating to the topics of biomedical and life sciences. Unlike PubMed, PubMed Central contians full-text articles directly on the site which are accessible to everyone.
PubMed Central is simple to search using the search bar located at the top of the page, or by selecting advanced search.
Please note that PubMed and PubMed Central, while related, are NOT the same.
PubMed contains citations to over 29 million articles, however, the articles are not always free, and must be accessed in their entirety through other database vendors.
PubMed Central contains over 3 million articles IN FULL TEXT directly through the site.
PubMed Central also contains materials outside of the scope of PubMed, such as book reviews and material dating to before 1966.
Therefore, searching PubMed and PubMed Central often yeild different results, so it is important to remember to check both databases when doing research.
