Creating a persistent link:

To share a persistent link from IEEE, you will need to add Kettering University's proxy to ensure all users both on and off campus can access it.

To do so, first, copy the URL that appears in the search bar for the resource you wish to share, which in this case is:

https://pubs-acs-org.kettering.idm.oclc.org/doi/10.1021/bk-1986-0306.ch001

Next, add Kettering University's proxy BEFORE the URL as shown below:

https://kettering.idm.oclc.org/login?url= added to

https://pubs-acs-org.kettering.idm.oclc.org/doi/10.1021/bk-1986-0306.ch001 equals the new persistent link:

https://kettering.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://pubs-acs-org.kettering.idm.oclc.org/doi/10.1021/bk-1986-0306.ch001

ACS only publishes high-quality peer-reviewed content that remains some of the most highly cited in the field of chemistry. There are over 70 ACS journals in this collection, dating from 1996 to the present. Also included are two collections of ebooks, In Focus eBook Collection I and II, and the Guide to Scholarly Communication.

Searching the Database

At the top of the page, you will find a search box where you can enter any keywords, authors, titles, DOI, etc.

The results page has some points to notice, as shown below.

  • Filters on the left side include content type, subject area, publication date, topic area, and more.
  • If the resource is in the library's subscription, there's a green button that says "Subscribed." Seeing a brown button that says "Open Access," means it is freely available for anyone to read. If you don't see either of those, contact the library and we can get it for you.
  • Each result that is available will tell you how you can access it: Full Text (read in browser), PDF,  Abstract, etc.
  • You can click the title of the resource to open more info and read in the browser.

If you choose "Full Text" or click the title of the resource you want, it will open in your browser to be read, with a further option to download the PDF from that point as well.

Once you click the title, you can scroll down to read the full article or click "Open PDF" to access the file to download or print. At the top right of the page, you will find the citation information.

If you need help or have questions about this database, contact the library for assistance.
